Get Informed Domestic Violence, Christmas, and COVID-19: It’s the Hardest Time of the Year by Whitley Pierson DV/SA Advocate During the holidays, it is normal for domestic violence agencies to experience a lull in calls and walk-ins until after New Year’s Day. Risk Factors are Heightened While there is no excuse for domestic violence, there are a few risk factors that can escalate an abuser’s behavior. Domestic Violence, Christmas, and COVID-19: It’s the Hardest Time of the Year Oklahoma State Question 805:
Oklahoma State Question 805 is the Criminal History in Sentencing and Sentence Modification Initiative. This State Question’s goal is to prohibit using a person’s past non-violent felony convictions to impose a more significant sentence when sentencing a person convicted of a non-violent felony. Prohibiting the prosecutor’s ability to use past criminal activity to enhance future charges’ sentencing puts victims more at risk. If SQ 805 is passed, a person convicted of domestic violence would be limited to a penalty of up to four years regardless of their past criminal history or how many victims they have abused.

If you notice your child playing rough with another child, point out to them to look at that child’s face. My final thought when it comes to teaching your kids and eventually your teens consent is this: you are not just raising kids, you are raising adults. I can not help but to think if we start empowering our kids to take ownership of their bodies early on and begin asking for positive, enthusiastic consent before they engage in any kind of activity, we may be able to decrease this statistic.
