When Chad and Rich came to us with their ideas for a surprise wedding, we were THRILLED because there’s really nothing better than planning two parties in one! Guests received invitations to celebrate Chad’s graduation from nursing school (such a great thing to celebrate! ) and found themselves participating in a wedding ceremony halfway through the party. Inside, we included fun palm patterned linens, bright island blossoms, tropical beverages served in coconut cups, and a buffet spread that included a whole roasted pig! While our dancers distracted the guests, Chad and Rich slipped downstairs to change into their ceremony outfits.
Whenever I have a client tell me they want southern comfort food and they want to be creative about it, my first thought is Chef Jolie with Low Country Quisine. We meet our clients here for their tastings, but we cater events all over Dallas-Fort Worth! Clients that are really excited about food and actually consider themselves to be foodies. From little bows and onesies to fabulous food and desserts, showers are a fantastic opportunity surround the parents-to-be and little one with love. A book-themed shower gives you the opportunity to incorporate a lot of different food and décor options – plus the parents-to-be can keep the books for story time. For a different take on a guest book, you could ask your guests to decorate a page from an ABC book, baby blocks, onesies, or diapers with messages for the parents to read during a late-night diaper change. There are also some super fun printable games that can range from baby babble where you have to unscramble baby related words to emoji Pictionary – can you guess what children’s story or nursery rhyme is represented by these emojis?
Different caterers have different rules about reheating food, but it’s definitely an option to consider when thinking about ways to give back. Alternatively, if you think your guests might be the kind to want to bring physical gifts, try having a toy drive or asking everyone to bring their favorite book to be donated. Rather than trying to think of the perfect little gift for your guests, how about you donate to a charity of your choice in their honor. That way you don’t have to worry if anything gets left on the table at the end of the night, because the charity has received your donation either way.
