Over to my brother Adrian who will be reviewing Elderflower Fields, the family festival in Sussex next month with his wife Sophie, and two boys aged 6 and 3. Let me elaborate: Our 6 year old is looking forward to the art and sports clubs where he can meet new friends, plus old friends from school who happen to be at the festival. The Sunday Family Picnic also looks like a great chance to socialise and try out some local produce and experience the taste of Sussex. May 2019, Pippingford Park, East Sussex and was Runner Up – Best Family Festival – Family Traveller and Runner Up-
As an ex drama teacher I firmly believe there is something akin to soul food in going to see a really great piece of theatre as a family. I don’t think you can beat Amsterdam for a family short break – great galleries and museums, awesome outdoor spaces and the kind of snacks that make perfect bribe materials – waffles and pancakes! The Peak District is also a great spot for Wild Swimming, here are some places we’ve been recommended for splashing, paddling and swimming with kids. Guaranteed to fire the imaginations and a very cool place to hang out with other families, Boggle Hole youth hostel is in its very own cove, with family rooms, a great bar, nature activities and a walk to Robin Hood’s Bay possible when the tide is out.
How to Get Your Kids to Eat Anything is more than just a family cook book. You can dive straight in and use it as you would a cook book, hungry eyes jumping from page to page, eyeing up all the fun foods, plumping for any number of crowd pleasers, but dive deeper and you discover it’s also cleverly organised in phases to help families truly work through ‘How to Get Your Kids to Eat Anything’ as a family. I feel especially proud – partly because Emily chose to write this cook book in our Airbnb barn here in the Peak District – but also because it’s been amazing to watch Emily’s journey as a recipe creator and food blogger explode. As I mentioned How to Get Your Kids to Eat Anything is also a very clever recipe book, and outlines five phases to help families to navigate fussy eating.
Dog and family friendly Dorset, also fab for budding palaeontologists, gardeners, beach combers, nature lovers, history buffs and cream tea worshippers. Dog and family friendly Dorset has so much to offer for a spring or Easter break, with idyllic shores and plenty of dog friendly beaches. Very different but also very Dorset too, is Hardown House, with its elevated position over Bridport, stunning sea views maximised by bifold doors leading onto a sun terrace with panoramic rural and sea views towards Golden Cap. Ruth’s place sleeps four and is the perfect family cottage, located in the picturesque village of Charminster, just 2 miles from Dorchester, and 6 miles from Cerne Abbas, home of the National Trust’s Cerne Abbas Giant.
