The insiders' guide to Vermont's mountain sports + life. A locally owned, independent magazine.
Update as of 4. 12
As spring moves in, plenty of resorts are still offering skiing and riding through April. At these ski areas, you can find an epic good time with live music, parties and pond skims on Saturday, followed by mountaintop sunrise service on Sunday
It’s pond skim season. And in case you missed it, there were some doozies of events last weekend
That was the case when we saw that the Killington CEO (who has brought the World Cup to Vermont, helped build 36 miles of mountain bike trails and has secured more than 25 million in investments in the resort and a new base lodge) was running for governor. One of Vermont’s smallest ski areas (rope tows and t-bars, hello? ), this little area in the Northeast Kingdom is big on attitude and was one of Glen Plake’s favorite Vermont stops on his 2019 Down Home Tour. Haley O’Brien, the former Mount Snow communications person who has gone on to become the Tina Fey of skiing, put together an amazing video and story documenting a move by Aspen/Snowmass to install security screenings for Ikon Pass holders on her The Snow Report. It was almost believable that “Green runs will be 5 to 10 miles per hour, intermediate blue runs will be 10 to 20 miles per hour and black groomed runs will be 20 to 40 miles per hour,” and that some resorts would be out there with radar guns.
