DIY ideas for decorating, gardening + entertaining to make your home and life more creative
She’s almost four months old (ah! ) and spends lots of her day doing tummy time and practicing sitting up. We try all kinds of things to keep it interesting, but when I saw this “paint in a bag” idea, I was -so- excited. I waited a little too long for this part and the paint started drying and soaking into our paper so we’ve got a few rips. I plan on creating a gallery wall in her play room for all her art work as she grows, but for now one is on the fridge and one is framed here: If you try this with your little ones, tag me in your photos on instagram!
This space gets the most gorgeous light because it’s south-facing and the view out the windows is of our dogwood trees and vegetable garden, perfect for a child to daydream. The dresser has been mine for over 15 years and it’s holding up great, so it will be perfect for her to grow into. In here, that means a new crib, new bedding, old (beautifully-refinished-by-my-mother) dresser, re-purposed lamp, my vintage lace gloves, my mom’s baby blanket, gifted books and toys and some hand-painted birds above the crib. This dresser was found on consignment locally for $50 and it was stained dark like the handles you see in the photo.
I can’t wait to use this bag for on-the-go later, but for now, I’m breaking it in as our baby’s hospital bag. I tried to pair down, but I also know I’ll want options for photos and going home, so I tried to cover my bases. There are so many gorgeous and fun prints and products on the market for babies these days, and I love them, but I didn’t want to look back in 10 years and feel like I went overboard. So, I kept her clothes neutral and classic, but I’m bringing a couple of fun swaddle options to try too.
We’re not quite to the stage of baby-proofing, per se, but there are changes we’ve made to make our home a bit more family-friendly. We were fine with shamelessly eating dinner at the coffee table most nights and we have always had the run of the land as far as closet space and storage. Now we’re thinking about things like, more floor space for play time, more storage for toys and swaddles, family dinner at a table, etc. We also opened up the doorway between the kitchen and the living room, to help the small banquet area feel more airy.
