More and more specific vegan products are entering the supermarkets in the last few years. What’s new now is that some supermarkets are even creating whole vegan sections in their store
De Bijenkorf is a pretty posh department store, which you can find in many cities in the Netherlands. It includes their own food court style restaurant called ‘The Kitchen’, which you can find in Amsterdam on the top floor
Bakery Willem-Pie, whose vegan cakes were already making their way into Amsterdam restaurants and businesses, opened up a temporary cake cafe at Amsterdam Zuid. Earlier this year restaurant Yerba opened at Amsterdam Zuid, getting raving reviews and is even included in the 2019 Gault Millau guide! Other notable restaurant happenings of the past year include the fun and fully vegan pop-up Sproutsiders at Rivierenbuurt, the opening of vegetarian/vegan take-away shop Health Food Wall, falafel chain Maoz going fully vegan in Amsterdam and the recent opening of the second location of vegan-friendly restaurant The Meets. Also Vegan Food Festival Amsterdam will return next year.
Also the yearly Vredesdienst voor Dieren is taking place again! Vegan restaurant Mr. & Mrs. Watson is going for a two week long period of a special festive set menu, replacing their regular menu. For the fifth year the unique Vredesdienst voor Dieren is being held again. A special evening for believers and non-believers alike, to reflect upon the way we treat our fellow animals.
