First Hong Kong Vegan Cheese Shop Now Open for Business

Hong Kong's latest vegan business, Le Fromage, stocks over 20 varieties of plant-based cheese and other delicacies. Hong Kong now has even more plant-based options thanks to Le Fromage by Ma: the first-ever all-vegan cheese shop in the region. In addition to the widest range of vegan cheese in Hong Kong, Le Fromage stocks various other artisan and locally-produced products including chutneys, olive oils, keto bread, and gluten-free crackers. Hong Kong is now also home to a completely vegan French bakery, Bien Caramélisé, while Discovery Bay-favorite Hemingway’s Bar & Grill now serves a 100 percent plant-based menu.

Top Vegan Protein Sources Ranked By a Dietician

Registered dietitian Desiree Nielsen answers the most burning questions about plant protein and ranks 10 of the best vegan protein sources. Nielsen ranks 10 vegan proteins as great, good, or not the best, but still tasty. Lentils are one of the most wonderful plant-based proteins because a half a cup of cooked lentils has nine grams of protein in addition to plenty of fiber and iron,” she explains. The evidence confirms that not only is soy nutrient-dense, a half a cup of tofu has 12 grams of plant-based protein in addition to plenty of calcium and iron,” she explains.

Mark Cuban Wants You to Milk Your Own Nuts at Home

Mark Cuban’s investment portfolio now includes Numilk, a brand that makes a machine that will allow consumers to DIY vegan milk at home. On an episode of Shark Tank that premiered on March 26, the wealthy businessman eagerly invested $2 million in a company called Numilk, which was founded by entrepreneurs Ari Tolwin and Joe Savino in 2018. Cuban wasn’t prepared to give Tolwin and Savino what they asked for—a $1 million investment for just 5 percent equity, which would be a $20 million company valuation—, but he had an investment plan. Cuban invested $300,000 into vegan meat brand Everything Legendary during another Shark Tank episode that aired earlier this month, and his extensive investment portfolio of plant-based brands also includes Wild Earth, Mrs. Goldfarb’s Unreal Deli, and several others.

Luxury Goes Fur-Free: Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga Ditch Animal Pelts

Two more Kering-owned fashion brands have gone fur-free. According to a press release sent to LIVEKINDLY, Humane Society International and the Humane Society of the United States worked with Kering on adopting a fur-free policy for more than ten years. Every time a big fashion name like Alexander McQueen or Balenciaga goes fur-free, it sends a clear message that fur has no place in a modern society,” the animal rights groups’ CEO, Kitty Block, said. The brand also joined the Fur Free Alliance, an international coalition of more than 40 animal protection organizations working to end the use of fur for fashion.
