We met while working on a tiny island in the middle of the Indian Ocean and fell in love beneath the stars. We’re currently work on opposite coasts, and our work environments and operational schedules altered our intended wedding date. It felt right, so I suggested we go gets drinks before we head out to the tidal basin for the ceremony and find a place to share their vows. They shared with me [that on the island they met] they would frequently see the most beautiful rainbows, so I think it was fitting that we were able to see a rainbow while walking around DC that day.
It was a sudden, last minute trip before the New Years Literally went from 20 degree weather to upper 70 degree weather. We had the chance to photograph at a few places, but I really wanted to highlight the session at Ka’ena Point since I felt like these really captured something different – some raw emotion – and some beautiful island like landscapes. I had scouted Ka’ena Point briefly on Google Maps before the trip and made the recommendation – the scenery did not disappoint.

They enjoyed each other’s company so much they closed down the bar that night, however Janelle jumped in a cab before Ryan could get her number… thankfully their friends were willing to make the connection again! On November 3rd, 2016, Ryan proposed to Janelle over breakfast at their dining room table and surprised her with a trip to Paris that night to celebrate. On the wedding day, Janelle and Ryan decided to rent a trolley to take their wedding party to all of the meaningful monuments in DC. Janelle and Ryan have been blessed with incredible role models in their parents who have demonstrated day-by-day what it takes to create a strong partnership and the ingredients for a lasting marriage.
