We want them to have these fun social experiences, date lots of different people, know how to pay attention to & engage in conversation with girls, practice their manners & chivalry, and learn important social skills. I wanted to sit down and write about our dating rules and standards and realized that the best way to do that is to share the Dating section of For the Strength of Youth and interject with our own thoughts, rules, experiences that go along with it. Again, as we have coached & encouraged our kids from their early teen years we stress that the purpose of dating in high school is to have fun! , interact with lots of different people, and learn those social skills. As a mother of boys, it makes me quite sad, because I know how much courage it takes for those boys to first ask, and then try to provide a fun evening for those girls.

These prophets teach us that if we are to obtain true happiness, or in other words, to partake of the precious fruit described by Lehi & Nephi, we must obey the word of God, or His commandments, which Nephi described as the iron rod. It wasn’t the happiness I had experienced with friends on the ball field; it was the inner peace and joy that come from obeying the word of God and feeling His love.

This year I pulled out my Christmas tubs and began decorating with the intention to set aside any unused Christmas decor in a donation pile. And so in the end, everything that I did put up for display are things that I truly love which means that my Christmas home is making me very happy this year! With the cleaning out of the cabin and my dad cleaning out the house, I have been able to sort through and gather many of my mom's own Christmas decor and bring them home to include with my own. Dressed up the little shelf alcove on my kitchen island with Christmas dishes and a couple Christmas recipe books I pulled from my mom's Christmas stash.
