Hi! I'm Lisa Mabey and I blog at Mabey She Made It. Come see what I'm up to at www.mabeyshemadeit.com
By joining the Layers blog tour for Winter Wear Designs, I knew I wanted to make the Metro Slimfit Blazer for my son and gave myself a deadline. I immediately knew I wanted to make my son the Metro Slimfit Blazer from Issue 15. While I love welt pockets, I skipped them this time because he doesn’t really use pockets yet. If you’ve enjoyed this version of the the Metro Slimfit Blazer, make sure you go check out some of the other layering pieces on the other tour stops!
We did a fun hour-long whirlwind of a photoshoot (including setting up and taking down a Farmer’s Market booth) that you’ve been able to see in the look book. This boat-neck tee has lots of fun details like the shoulder tabs, cuffed sleeve, ruched sides, and faced neckline that’s a little fancier than your regular banded tee. Take your basic popover shirt, and add some fun details for both boys and girls and you’ve got the Rosemary and Thyme Shirt designed by Audrey from Project Run & Play. So if you’re keeping track, that’s six of the 10 patterns in the Farmer’s Market collection.
I totally get the intimidation of sewing swimsuits, but to ease any hesitations you might feel I’ve put together a list of sewing swimsuit tips and tricks to help you get started without frustration (and even some troubleshooting tips, too! ). You can also use the same swim fabric to line your suit if you don’t want to get lining, but either way, the extra layer helps your suit look great and last longer. Here’s the 1/4″ clear elastic I used or the cotton swim elastic which is easier to use and softer. If you’re finding you have wavy seams or that you’re having a hard time getting over thicker areas (such as bindings), try a walking foot which pulls the fabric through the machine by utilizing the feed dogs on the bottom and the foot pulling the fabric on the top.
So when this swimsuit sewing blog tour popped up this year, I knew I was on board. This year I used the Women’s Mairin pattern from Sew A Little Seam because I started with the girls version last year and loved the results. I’m much more comfortable in a pair of board shorts, so I made a pair using the free Purl Soho shorts and altered them to have straight sides because I didn’t have enough of this coral binding to do the curved option (sad! ).
