Birmingham’s historic Old Rep Theatre rocked to the sound of roaring laughter tonight, as it hosted ‘An Evening of Eric & Ern‘ a glorious recreation of the magic that was Morecambe and Wise. Together they have produced a show that makes you laugh and smile from start to finish, as the one liners, gentle innuendo and those extended pauses that come complete with knowing facial expressions, greet you like old friends. A scene where Eric is attempting ventriloquism, with Ernie providing the voice, is just hilarious, and Eric playing all the right notes ‘but not necessarily in the right order’ had the audience roaring, just like it did all those years ago. Of course, Eric and Ern were famous for their special guests, and the audience was not disappointed as the lovely Becky Neal was treated to the Morecambe and Wise treatment as she sang ‘Send in the Clowns’

Taking the premise, and many of the exhibits, from the old science museum, and placing them in a vast, almost industrial style building at Millennium Point, Thinktank helps to bring science to live with the help of bells and buzzers, robots and recycling, and a Spitfire, a beautiful Spitfire. It is a wonderful experience that you can easily spend a whole day enjoying, and you can now combine the exhibits with a visit to the new 4k planetarium system the only one of its kind in the West Midlands! The glorious City of Birmingham Locomotive was another fave, I personally loved the gallery of images and memorabilia, including 1930s railway posters. The new and improved Planetarium is truly fabulous, you really are given the experience of the sorts of night sky we hardly see in the UK, clear and full of stars, The constellations are shown beautifully, and you are also introduced to some of the planets, as the images appear all around you, totally transporting you into outer space.

Whilst she seems to shine on screen when playing sirens from the past, in real life she has a style that is elegant, sharp and utterly modern, looking equally at home in form fitting Herve Leger dresses, or in full length column styles that are perfect in their simplicity. With fabulous looks and roles, both on stage and on screen, and with style that is lighting up the red carpet, I would say that Nina Arianda is definitely one to watch.
