The other thing about Easter: Scary church stories

You have probably already told him that the picture of Jesus on the cross is hard for all of us to look at and think about, and that you are not surprised the story makes him scared and sad. None Jesus lived far, far away and a long, long time ago. None Jesus was someone who wanted to help people talk to one another, to use words, instead of hurting. If it is a family tradition to go to church and the figure of Jesus on the cross is unavoidable, do lots of planning with your child ahead of time.

The importance of talking with children about feelings

The teacher, Mr. Carpenter, was speaking quietly to him, helping with feelings the young boy could not express verbally. The assistant teacher, Ms. Dowd, approached Alex and Julia, hoping to find out what happened. He reached out to Mr. Carpenter and sighed, “I wanted you to help me with my missing-mommy feelings the way you helped Michael. It takes a little extra time to help a child listen to the feeling voice inside, and find a constructive way to express that feeling voice.
