Scotland Road Trip: Historic Castles and Stunning Coastlines

This is why when we planned our Scotland road trip we were sure to hit as many castles and coastlines as possible. These stunning views are the landscapes that have always defined Scotland in my mind and each day on our road trip around Scotland we planned to make at least one stop at one historic castle. If Caerlaverock is the most classic of the castles we visited then Castle Stalker is the most picturesque of the historic castles we visited around Scotland. There are so many historic castles around Scotland and they make for the pefect stop on a road trip.

5 Day Trips to Take from Stirling, Scotland

However, it is a small town and after you visit Stirling Castle, the Old Town Jail, and the William Wallace Monument you may want to take a day trip from the city. Blackness Castle was on my must-see list due to its prime location on the coast and accessibility and an easy day trip from Stirling. You don’t need to make a full day trip from Stirling to see these two sites, which allows you more time to explore your home base of Stirling. Castle Stalker is a long drive from Stirling but it was my favorite day from my Scotland trip.

Highlands and Islands: Exploring the Isle of Arran in Scotland

The ferry takes around an hour from Ardrossan to Arran and way to start of your adventure exploring the Isle of Arran. The whisky tradition is strong on the Isle of Arran and that is exactly why I brought a bottle back home with me to explore the Isle of Arran through its whisky. Scotland is the home of golf so of course, the Isle of Arran has plenty of golf courses. The Isle of Arran golf pass is £110 for seven rounds of golf and access to the driving range.

A Welsh Adventure: Coasteering & Surfing in Wales

Wales may be known for its history and stunning castles but this trip to Wales was all about the coast which is why we signed up for a morning of coasteering with TYF Adventures in Pembrokeshire. You don’t need any experience to enjoy coasteering and the trained TYF guides made it simple to adjust to an unfamiliar activity. Where to Go Coasteering in Wales Coasteering can be enjoyed on any coastline, as the name suggests, but it’s best when you’re on an incredible section of coastline with trained guides (especially if you’ve never been coasteering before). The Pembrokeshire coastline is stunning and the location we went coasteering was home to a Red Bull diving competition.
