The Imperial could seat about 3,000 movie-goers, and then it was sub-divided. In the 1960’s while a Ryerson student, I had the privilege of a job there in uniform – which meant a lot of standing and holding a flashlight. Same job, similar uniform. ‘Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte’, the Doris Day movies with Rock Hudson, and several other musicals and dramas over and over again.
Until April 11th, along Queen Street East, between Coxwell Avenue and Nevill Park, familiar spaces are transformed by “Luminosity”. Following a difficult winter with Covid-19, this will be an opportunity to experience night time after a long break. Visitors can explore this part of Toronto in a socially distanced and safe way until midnight, every night until April 11th.
