Last January, while looking for ways to create a digital word search for my students, I decided to finally jump on board the Google Jamboard train. I decided to use a French word search on opposites that I had made a while back and use it as the background of the Jamboard so that students can use the highlighter or paintbrush to highlight the words they found. Since I use les contraires a lot as part of the AIM Method, I decided to create a second version and add a second page to my Jamboard. I just love creating my own complementary materials, such as interactive SMART Notebook activities, DIY magnetic words and mini books, to further engage my students but given the current times, it's nice to have another tool such as Jamboard to create digital and interactive activities that can be used virtually or even assigned as a homework activity for extra practice.
I first saw an awesome English version of this on Jamboard created by the talented @MrsJankord and thought it was absolutely brilliant, I needed to make my own version en français. Because it is a Google Slide deck, the manipulatives only work in edit mode, not presentation or view only mode. Alternatively, you could select a student of the day and grant them temporary access to the file, or share in Google Classroom and make a copy for each student. To update the numbers on the calendar once January is over, simply navigate to SLIDE - EDIT MASTER and edit the numbers in each cell on the Calendar layout.
Recently, I've been looking at ways to incorporating more unplugged coding activities in the classroom, especially given the current need to minimize the shared use of manipulatives. It was just today that I remembered having created a Robot Mouse Challenge template in Google Slides a while back where you can create a virtual maze and then come up with the algorithm to solve the maze. I created six different layouts using the same number of squares that come with a Robot Mouse kit, 16 in total, and made several copies of the arrows to create the illusion of infinite cloning. During distance learning last spring, I explored a variety of ways to create interactive and engaging activities for my FSL students, and even designed a virtual French classroom in Google Slides . Under the Options tab, you can have the word times appear randomly every time students access the link or appear in the order in which you listed it on the Terms tab. Then, after you publish the Google Sheet to the web, you would go to the "Get the link here" tab and copy the Flippity url generated for you to share with students directly, or you could embed it into your Google Site, like I did here: Since I changed the share settings to this particular spreadsheet to "Anyone with the link can view", you can easily make a copy by clicking on the Share link at the bottom and selecting the Google Sheets icon and then got to File - Make a copy.
