Meeting the Penguins of Boulders Beach

As soon as I knew I was heading to South Africa to be a bridesmaid in my friend’s wedding (well, one the sheer excitement of being involved died down), my mind immediately went to the one thing I knew I wanted to do while away I have vague childhood memories of Blue Peter and the Really Wild Show breaking the news to my young mind that penguins don’t just live in cold places – The coastal town is easy to reach, 40 minutes south of Cape Town and not too distinguished from its neighbours. The beach, its main attraction, is set up like any of South Africa’s other national parks and attractions.

A Guide to Miami's Art Deco South Beach

If you want to see more of Miami’s Art Deco away from the crowds, head inland 2 blocks to Collins Avenue for highlights such as Jerry’s Famous Deli and the Cadillac Hotel. The residential blocks between 5th and 11th Streets feature some of the nicest but overlooked architecture in South Beach, and exploring these streets can provide some much-needed shade on hot Miami days. Miami is a city of leisure, with the sun so hot there’s no point rushing Stay hydrated and stick to the shade where possible Be prepared with lots of memory on your camera, you’ll want to snap aware freely Stop by the Art Deco Gift Shop for their illustrated postcards Budget Meal: Grab some tacos at the super budget Fresh Mexican Taco Bar at 1251 Washington Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139 Dining Experience: Try the 11th Street Diner, a converted airstream trailer with classic American menu Accommodation Experience: The Cleavelander is the ultimate hot spot with pool parties throughout the day and a sought after rooftop bar Along with Art Deco and beaches, South Beach is a great jumping off point to explore more of Miami from.

Wynwood Walls and the Design District of Miami

It’s been awhile but I’m back with the rest of my photos from an afternoon exploring the Wynwood Walls and design district of Miami City. As a reminder, Wynwood Walls is an official project inviting famous international street artists to create inspiring murals which have inspired the whole neighbourhood to become a maze of painted surfaces. In my last post, I shared photos from around the walls, here I’ll share images from the wider area including well-known and up-and-coming artists. Overall I just love the use of the wide white buildings, the inspiration of the setting seen through the frequent use of blues and art deco motifs, and the ambiance of the area as a whole.

Photographs from Miami's Street Art District

Wynwood is at the heart of the Art District, where former warehouses have been converted into boutiques and trendy eateries and the walls are lined with paint. The epicenter is the Wynwood Walls, an official and permanent project showcasing internationally renowned graffiti artists including some of my personal favourites Miss Van, Swoon and Maya Hayuk. This established space has encouraged others to come to the neighbourhood and paint every surface – the scale itself of the amount of art being created here is awe inspiring. Looking through my photographs I realised just how many interesting pieces caught my eyes – I’ve therefore had to break my post into two just to help the pages load!
