I’ve had a fantastic four years since Sochi, but over the last two years things have really shifted since I started with my new guide Brett. It’s been really amazing, we’ve won a few World Cup globes and then winning the World Champs this year was incredible. I talk it through with Brett and he’ll tell me what he’s going to say at various points too, so that’s such a vital time for us. I’ll know on 22nd December, we’re all great skiers, so it’s going to be tough.
The firm has also recently agreed sponsorship deals with Timperley FC and Lymm Oughtrington Park Cricket Club (Lymm OPCC), recognising a commitment by both clubs to actively promote women’s sport. We were impressed by all the organisation’s commitment to raising the profile of women’s sport in the region, as well as engaging with local families and children looking to enter the sport. Social responsibility is important to us and as we’ve grown we’ve worked hard to retain our strong links with local organisations in Sale, as well as forging new relationships with organisations across the city centre and South Manchester. Slater Heelis supports a number of organisations and charities including SunSport Velo women’s cycling team in Altrincham, Lymm Oughtrington Park Cricket Club, Timperley FC, Friends of Rosie, Helping Uganda Schools and also Quarantine Arts Company based in the Northern Quarter.
While Jessica Ennis-Hill’s retirement last year means she won’t be defending her title, the London 2012 Olympic champion will still receive a medal as she belatedly collects her 2011 world gold at a ceremony on the Sunday evening. The event is set to be dominated by world record-holder Anita Wlodarczyk of Poland, who has the seven best throws in the world this year to her name, topped by the second-best throw in history of 82.87m from the end of July. The British record-breaking quartet which claimed Olympic bronze in Rio – Asha Philip, Desiree Henry, Dina Asher-Smith (above right) and Daryll Neita – all feature in the squad and British 100m and 200m record-holder Asher-Smith is finding form following her foot injury earlier this year. Joined by Shannon Hylton, Bianca Williams and Corinne Humphreys, the GB squad will be looking to make an impact alongside the likes of strong teams from Jamaica and the USA. Lorraine Ugen missed out on the London Olympic Games by a single centimetre five years ago but has demonstrated her fine form with a UK indoor record of 6.97m plus European indoor silver and British Championships gold this year and will be looking to make the most of finally being on the global stage in the London Stadium.
Sport Wales has today launched the first phase of a new campaign to unite women and girls programmes and projects across Wales in celebrating, encouraging and empowering more women and girls to get active, and stay active. Our Squad is aimed at every woman and girl in Wales, no matter fitness level, ability or activity of choice and is looking for Welsh women and girls willing to be part of a new virtual squad of ladies who will share their positive experiences of sport and bring other women and girls along with them. They are making sport and physical activity, and the many benefits that come with it, more accessible for females and it’s usually down to the people who run the projects and take the time to ensure others have a good experience. The campaign will launch across Sport Wales’ social media channels from today – women and girls looking to be a part of Our Squad, to celebrate others who have helped make a difference, or become an ambassador in their area are invited to like Our Squad’s Facebook page and follow on Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram.
