It was quite a surprise to her family that their little one looked extremely similar to baby Moana and perhaps serendipity that the meaning of her name Kailani is "WHERE THE SKY MEETS THE SEA", a line that is repeated throughout the theme song. After a friend's suggestion, Hawaiian island girl and party loving mom knew that the party theme for Kailani's second birthday had been found. The dessert spread included cake pops with edible puka shells and Maui hooks, cookie volcanos, Moana inspired oreos and an array of Te Fiti inspired sweets including the main cake made by cake designer mom. Birthday girl and guests had a wonderful adventure through their own land of Mata Nui and as they departed, goody bags reminded them to be who they are on the inside.
After getting glammed up, activities included cake decorating and party games such as donut-on-a-string, a game where donuts are tied to strings, held above each player's head and eaten using no hands. 3 lavish cakes adorned one dessert table, while the smaller, more delicate desserts such as sugared marshmallows, chocolate covered apples, chocolate covered oreos and meringues were displayed in a china cabinet turned into a dessert station. After having their fill of fun and treats, party guests were sent home with the cake they decorated, loads of sweets and a t-shirt that read "KEEP CALM and EAT CAKE"! I spend my days playing with sugar, making things pretty and wrangling more children than I have hands. I started my journey with cake in 2012 after waking up one morning and deciding my busy interior design business was keeping me away from my family for far too much time. I remember rolling over, looking at my husband.... and announcing that I'd be closing the business I had built for 11 years and would be selling cupcakes instead. On this blog I will be sharing my cakes, cake tips, a recipe here and there, a touch of event planning and design, some interior design and a sprinkling of my every day life too.
