We've played some heavy games via telegaming, such as Uwe Rosenberg's Fields of Arle and Vital Lacerda's Lisboa. We have succeeded thus far without any disagreement among the players (3 of us at the moment), with no detriment to our games, found this great when it comes to gaming comfortably and yet appreciating how technology and physical gaming could go hand in hand. We initially thought roll-and-write games were most suitable for telegaming until we came across this gem called Fields of Arle, a heavy game for 2 players, but worked well on such a platform. But for people like me who are not frequently able to go out as much, in fact minding the huge collection of games sitting idle on the shelves, telegaming is a We are going to write about two designers today:
I don't usually feel like I need to play a game more than a couple of times, but this game grows on you – the more times I play it, the more I like it. I only played 3 light games on Friday evening – in the lounge of the Hilton we played Lloyd and Sara's customised Codenames (which uses game box covers instead of words); Andy and Tom needed a 3rd player for Among the Stars ; finally Chris joined us to play a game of Red 7, which was an interesting filler. Sometimes you just end up in a situation where you have to be apart from your beloved ones 😢 Fortunately, thanks to Facetime/Skype/Facebook/other video chat tools, one can still talk to family, friends etc. This graphic designer by profession, and arguably one of the more successful game designers, has consistently exceeded expectations: Vital Lacerda is the one who I would like to write a wee bit about.
Well, doing one of my favourite things (playing board games), talking to one of my favourite designers (Friedemann Freise), seeing some of my favourite people (gaming friends from Cambridge and Peterborough), in one of my favourite bookshops (Heffers). When we finished playtesting, people were already in the middle of their games, so Aishwarya kindly lent me Fleet the Dice Game for a 2-player game with Chris. I saw people playing that night included Concordia (Andy, and Aishwarya etc), The Faceless (Lloyd, Sara, M and Dave), and Echidna Shuffle (Tom, and R etc). When I played the 4 player solo, I had a feeling that I was missing something somewhere and making some mistakes in the gameplay, so I approached the designer for a session on Tabletopia with 3 players (Daniel, Diana and I). This pnp experience was inspired by a DIY video on Youtube that taught me to make a folding board that looks similar to the commercial game board. I repurposed an old trivial pursuit game board, sleeved all the cards, laminated the small boards and used some nice wooden components to make it look even better. Even though this game is already out in the market, I decided to try my skills to make my first game board (made a few weeks before the other games mentioned above) and everything enclosed in a wooden box.
