This year I let him work at his own pace and we completed 2nd grade work, therefore, I’m going to refer to him as my 1st/2nd grader. I struggled to know where to begin with my 3rd grader, however the literature suggested that everyone, no matter the age, start with Level 1 because there is no way to know what they may have missed and it’s better to start from the beginning to give them a good foundation. Writing is not my strong suite, so when it came time to pick a writing curriculum for my 3rd grader, I sought out advice from fellow Classical Conversations Homeschool Mammas. I used The Teacher Next Door’s 3rd Grade Morning Work for my oldest and Second Story Window’s 2nd Grade Morning Work for my youngest.
It lead to a great discussion about how seeds grow, what seeds need to grow, and about the patience we’d need as we waited and watched for the new life. It’s one thing to disappoint myself, but it’s another to disappoint my sweet little men who ran downstairs every morning to see if anything had grown. I love seeing how excited my little men get to get their hands in the dirt and carefully tend to the little plants as they begin to grow. not only will you have some yummy vegetables, beautiful flowers and memories of time spent together as a family, but maybe you, too, will have earned your “green thumb” wings!
No, nothing bad happened, we knew that Andrew’s job would last through March 2018, with the possibility to stay on longer, and that we’d have some decisions to make. During our year of homeschooling, the boys and I (and Andrew) have fallen in love with homeschooling, and more specifically a classical education. We asked the boys upon our return if they’d like to continue to homeschool or to go back to school with their friends and both of them exclaimed, “HOMESCHOOL! ! ! I get lots of questions about homeschooling, the model we use, the curriculum we use, the co-op we joined, and whether or not we’ll homeschool through high school.
How is it already time for school to begin? I swear, as the boys get older the days fly by faster and faster. The last six weeks of summer flew by and left me with very little time to write
