I thought long and hard about which cake to make first and landed on none other than this deep, dark, chocolate “Bribery Cake” recipe which, mind you, is slathered in Chocolate Swiss Merengue Buttercream and sprinkled with MALDON SEA SALT. So Why Can’t We? 1 3/4 cups of all-purpose flour 1/2 cup of unsweetened Dutch-processed cocoa powder 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking soda 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt 1 1/2 cups of sugar 2 large eggs, at room temperature 1 cup of milk, preferably whole 1/2 cup of canola oil 1/2 teaspoon of bourbon vanilla extract 1 cup of boiling water 2 sticks of unsalted butter, at room temperature 3 egg whites from 3 large eggs, at room temperature 1 cup of sugar 1/4 teaspoon of cream of tartar 1/4 teaspoon of kosher salt 1/2 teaspoon of bourbon vanilla extract 2 tablespoons of unsweetened Dutch-processed cocoa powder 1. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt over a large mixing bowl. Transfer the mixture into the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment and beat on high for about four minutes, or until the mixture is white and fluffy, with “stand-up peaks.
This time around our good friends in No Vacation are paying tribute to the late Dolores O’Riordan with a full album cover of The Cranberries’ debut album Everybody Else Is Doing It, The fine people at Paste Magazine were kinda enough to premiere the album’s first single, “Linger,” earlier this afternoon as their Daily Dose (i.e. today’s “song you absolutely, positively need to hear”). Nat from No Vacation had this to say about the album: One of the biggest challenges in this process was trying to create something that in essence is still the Cranberries, while also sounding like No Vacation. Meanwhile, Sab talked about the challenges of tackling a full album cover: The whole cover process was new to us because we had never thought to cover an album in full.
Although we could write lots and lots of words, we thought it might make more sense to put together a playlist featuring the artists we’re most excited to see at this year’s festival. It’s packed with 46 artists (and counting) including our favorite rising artists like Black Belt Eagle Scout, Quivers, Barrie (who played our very own showcase last year), Tasha, MUNYA, Sneaks, Hickeys, Helena Deland, Ghostly Kisses; and so on. It’s also got more established names we stan like Broken Social Scene, Big Boi, Miya Folick(! ), White Denim, De La Soul, Pedro hey” you can catch us hanging out at the showcases hosted by homies like Father/Daughter Records, Gorilla vs Bear, Polyvinyl, Stereogum, AdHoc, and Nylon Magazine
The project of Los Angeles-based Cecil Campanaro (bass, vocals) and Brian Stanley (vocals, guitar, keys), It’s a total jam built upon a spacious soundstage populated by rubbery bass riffs, brightly-lit synths, and coolly sung vocals. It’s another tasty slice of grandiose r&b-tinged pop built with a skittering percussion, bubbling bass notes, catchy harmonies, and slick, twinkling guitar riffs. We pressed the standard edition of this month’s vinyl on electric blue vinyl alongside a deluxe edition on electric blue with black splatter for subscribers who’ve been with us for a year.
