It’s a visceral reaction to something beautiful that gives me joy; and is supremely superior to its opposite reaction, the sound of me vomiting into my own mouth when I see something I hate (think 1980’s shiny grey leather sofas that should never still be in manufacture. This excitement and giddiness is exactly what happened when I first clapped eyes on the exquisite rug designs of Wendy Morrison, and I can’t wait to share her amazing talent with you and show you the stunning rug I have of hers, that has slotted seamlessly into one of my room schemes for the Fungalow! The Pink House blog’s amazing Instagram feed, and saw one of Wendy’s rugs being featured in owner Emily’s beautiful kitchen? I saw one of her designs in John Lewis once, and I remember just stroking it, and staring at it for minutes like a weirdo, and taking a photograph of it, and then seeing the JL assistant watching me, so pretending to look at other rugs, but actually looking at Wendy’s rug out of the corner of my eye.
the long unexpected grieving I did over this; the threat of bankruptcy due to the shop landlord, how we ended up with no assets whatsoever, having sold our house to set up the shop, and living in a rental that we hated and found drepressing; losing both our beloved dogs (click here to see them working in my shop) to cancer during our time there, which completely broke us and still affects us to this day; me suffering from my ever present depression and anxiety, and from a creative burnout, where I completely questioned my ability and nearly gave up being an interior designer, which shook me to my core; and my husband suffering from severe work related anxiety and being a hair’s breadth from having a nervous breakdown. And you certainly don’t want to read about them when I could be telling you all about the Fungalow! Because a year ago, due to all the hard work that nearly drove my lovely husband to a breakdown, we were able to not only gain some financial stability again but, after seven years in rental, to be able to buy the house of our dreams! The extension will come off the French doors at the rear: DINING ROOM: this will remain the dining room but will be knocked through into the living room (which will become the kitchen) for more open plan living. Here’s to happier healthier times for my little family, and I hope you will join us on our journey as we make this already much loved home into something that can only be described as (hopefully, fingers crossed) a Fungalow! I already can’t wait to share with you my new favourite Wendy Morrison rug, and the scheme that I’ve developed around it, so I’m going to be back tomorrow to tell you all about it.
And what better way to celebrate Easter, and spring in general, than exploring some really pretty ways to display all the lovely flowers that are beginning to fill our shops. But after looking at all these lovely pictures of ever-so-pretty flower displays, that not only exude the freshness and joy of spring, but look relatively easy to do, I am feeling super inspired and have vowed to myself to make more of an effort with my displays this summer. So, here are my top 6 picks of pretty, spring inspired floral displays to start our Easter weekend off with. Display a bunch of flowers in a large bowl, and all you need to do to achieve this is place a grid of masking tape over the top of the bowl and then pop your flowers in.
