HI USA Offering Travel Scholarships to Explore the World

In September 2017, I had the honor of attending the White House Summit for Study Abroad and Global Citizenship, a two-day event co-hosted by Hostelling International USA (HI USA) and Partners of the Americas held in New York City at HI USA. HI USA, a nonprofit, member organization founded on an enduring belief in the power of travel to foster a deeper understanding of people, places, and the world around has a wealth of programs and opportunities available to make it easier for young people to see the world. HI USA created the Explore the World Travel Scholarships to help young adults aged 18-30 finance an international service or educational trip abroad. Seven Off the Beaten Path Destinations in Chile

There are some famous Chile tourism attractions that you can’t have failed to have heard about: Torres del Paine National Park, Easter Island, San Pedro de Atacama. Although Torres del Paine National Park continues to attract visitors to Chile in their thousands, if you’re seeking a quieter chance to appreciate Patagonia’s desolate yet strikingly beautiful wilderness, Cerro Castillo National Park is the best place to visit in Chile. An hour’s drive north of Cochrane on the Carretera Austral, the 81,000 hectares of former grazing land that make up Patagonia National Park offer some of Patagonia’s most captivating landscapes and hiking. Transport to the park is very difficult: you can either hitchhike from Cochrane, jump on a bus heading north from the same town and get off at the turning for the park (from where it’s a further 11 kilometres to reach the entrance) or hire a car in Coyhaique (check out Rental Cars for the cheapest prices) and drive down the Carretera Austral.

A Week with TribesForGOOD Exploring Social Impact

This November I had the privilege of joining the TribesForGOOD social impact journey, a week-long workshop exploring the concept of doing good. From the very beginning, as we commenced with a self-reflective session from leadership coach Zubin J. Mirchandani, I was heading down the rabbit hole of my own dreams and aspirations, allowing myself to be inspired by his guidance on finding your “sweet spot”, that is – the place that equally satisfies your passions, lifestyle choices and competences. The self-reflective session was a great segway into the core experiences on the TribesForGOOD itinerary, which included keynote speeches from various social entrepreneurs, as well as field visits to witness some of their successful endeavours. We toured Dharavi with social enterprise Be The Local Tours, an organisation that trains young adults, who have grown up in Dharavi, as tour guides, allowing them to earn income that is able to fund their college education.
