Travelling in a motorhome’s been an incredibly fulfilling experience for me and Ju (and we like to think the wee man Charlie too). We’ve felt a sense of incredible freedom in the ability to go almost wherever we wanted whenever we wanted, to stay in simply beautiful places, and to find a high degree of inner peace in living a simple life
We fitted a ‘SOG Unit’ to our motorhome’s Thetford cassette toilet about four years ago (more details about how we fitted ours here), enabling us to stop using chemicals in the loo, and to empty black waste into sensitive rural toilets in Scandinavia and the Baltic states. The system broke recently, and this post quickly looks at the repair
It seems to get easier each time, and this time it was even easier as we know we’ll be heading off in the motorhome again soon, so we don’t have to empty everything out. We’re off back to the Alps to prepare to run the Zermatt Half Marathon (me – fingers crossed) and the Zermatt Ultra Marathon (Jay), in early July. Since we’ve beent back we’ve updated our free ‘how to motorhome’ guides for France and Spain based on experiences on our recent trip, and published a couple of videos on our YouTube channel. When there’s a decision as to what Brexit means for us motorhomers, we’ll get our Motorhome Touring Handbook updated, but until then, we’re dividing our time between doing research for the new version and enjoying being back in good old Blighty.
It’s worth noting that these are our costs, and while they are a good starting point if you planning a similar trip, your costs may differ considerably. The total cost for three months touring in Zagan, our motorhome, was £3707.46, which breaks down to £45.77 per night. We also used 126 litres of LPG as it we needed the heating on every night when we weren’t hooked up to electricity – even when we reached Spain. I know lots of you like to see the motorhome tour costs details to help with you own tour planning
