While cleaning out my studio & office recently, I found two drawings I had made a long time ago to show how our dream bedroom would look and how Ben's office would look based off of different things he told me that he wanted. Fast forward a few months after these sketches, and it's pretty cool to see how close we got! ! Ben and I have done since we moved into our home, check out The Howard Home Tour
When DecoArt asked if I would be interested in trying out their Satin Enamels (which are best for walls, cabinets, furniture & small decor), I jumped at the chance to turn this functional but not-so-pretty piece into a sleek & classic beauty! The DecoArt Americana DECOR Satin Enamel paint covered so well, this table only needed two coats! Since this is my art table, I know I'll be getting paint, graphite, and all kinds of messes on this that I'll want to clean off. To make for easy clean up, I added a coat of DecoArt American DECOR Light Satin Varnish on the main surface of the table, plus front legs.
Since I won't pretend to be a woodworking expert, I did my best to embrace the imperfections, like here: I painted gold stripes along the edge where the trim was missing. Here's how it turned out: One of the coolest things about this bed was that when I distressed it, it looked like gold was shining through! Here you can get a better feel for the different finishes, the detail work has the satin sheen, the rest is matte! Thanks Riley for giving me artistic freedom and not getting too annoyed when I made you move around half of your room and get pretty white bed things and stage your room to be fancy, etc etc etc.
It's crazy how it can feel like we JUST got this house while simultaneously feeling like we've always been here. To celebrate our one year anniversary of being home owners, I thought it would be fun to post "The Howard Home Tour" - a special mini blog series that will be revealed next week! If you've followed my work over any span of time, you know that Ben and I love house projects, and that I've painted just about every possible surface! You'll see photos from Ben's awesome navy & gold office makeover + my latest attempt at making my studio not only a place for creating, but for being a functional human as well (there's a chair in there now lolz).
