About an hour and a half south of the city, Santa Cruz is one of California’s surfing hubs (labeled ‘Surf City USA’), and also happens to be my hometown. The city is known for a few different things: popularizing the surf and skate brand, O’Neill, encouraging alternative community lifestyles and liberal beliefs, being the home to a University of California school, and for the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk (the oldest surviving seaside amusement park on the West Coast). If you’re looking for a quick jaunt outside of the city, Pacifica is a small, 6-mile coastal town along the Pacific and a popular surfing and mountain biking destination for SF locals. If you’re looking for more ideas for things to do in the Bay Area or California as a whole, make sure to check out my bucket-list post on 101 Things to Do in California.
Weggis you will have to take a cable car to the intermediate station of Rigi Kaltbad and then continue your journey to the Rigi Kulm by the cogwheel train. At the intermediate station Frakmuntegg from Kriens, there is an option to ride Frakigaudi which is the longest toboggan run in Switzerland with a length of 1,350 m. The other option to reach Pilatus Kulm is to ride the world’s steepest cog railway which takes about 30 minutes. There is good connectivity of ferries from Lucerne to the town of Alpnachstad which is the starting point for the cogwheel train to the summit of Pilatus Kulm. If you can manage the time you can also plan a visit to Harder Kulm is a summit which offers incredible views of the Interlaken town, Thun and Brienz Lakes and the magnificent peaks of Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau.
The Ras Al Khor wildlife sanctuary is only a few minutes drive from the Burj Khalifa and is home to hundreds of wild birds, but the main attraction is the amazing flamingos. The park is huge, so it’s good to reserve at least a whole day and not plan other activities or tourist attractions during that day. If you choose a two-day ticket to visit all the parks, the price is 525 AED, but it’s definitely worth it because it’s one of a kind experience. The waterpark occupies 17 hectares and has won the award for the Middle East’s Leading Waterpark in the World Travel Awards, several times.
Venice is one of our favorite Italian cities. The pretty canals lined with Renaissance and Gothic Palaces has drawn tourists from all over the world
