Estes Park running camps deliver empowerment for women

The 2017 Running USA report on road race trends shows that despite the total number of race finishers reducing, the proportion of female finishers is at 57%, a proportion that has been consistent over the last four years. The number of female finishers has grown by 15% over the last sixteen years, with female finishers now outnumbering males by more than 2.7 million. Recent surveys have also highlighted some telling trends that could go to explain why women’s running is so hot, and why men are getting left behind. The recent growth in women’s running has been phenomenal, especially when you consider that women runners first took part in track events at the Olympics in 1928, and the first women’s marathon at the LA Olympics in 1984.

Seven scenic races in the US you don’t want to miss

Big Sur International Marathon Famous for being the first nationally-designated Scenic Highway in the country, Highway 1 at Big Sur has prime views of the dramatic coastline. The annual half marathon takes participants through the scenic High Sierra mountains and the Inyo National Forest, with an elevation change from almost 9000 ft to around 7800 ft. The course starts in a residential area in Arizona, but soon enters Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and along its beautiful trails overlooking the water. In what might be a first, the Everglades Half Marathon takes place entirely within park boundaries – and it can’t get much more scenic than that.

First snow on the trails in Colorado

We quickly found a band of runners called the asylum group, so called because the local townsfolk think they are all crazy to run up and down the challenging mountain trails in Rocky Mountain National Park. One of my favorite runs became Black Canyon trail, that runs east from the Lumpy Ridge trail head, and forms part of the famous Lumpy Ridge loop. Now, the Lumpy Ridge trail head has become a firm favorite for all of our trail running camps and women’s running camps that we hold here in Estes Park, Colorado. It is a firm favorite of seven time Western States 100 winner, Scott Jurek, as well as Joseph Gray (current World and US Mountain Running Champion), and Nancy Hobbs, (Chief Executive of the American Trail Running Association).
