These may look like delicious molé enchiladas but they are in fact CELEBRATION enchiladas because I was accepted into the grad school program I’ve been wringing my hands over for months! For those of you who just said “wait, weren’t you already in grad school?” I was. And I didn’t dig the program. So I left and found a better, more rigorous program that aligned with my standards better. They only take 77 people out of the over 300 applicants and after an intense application process and terrifying interview I was accepted to the Clinical Mental Health Counselor Program. Yay me! Yesterday I celebrate 2 years in recovery and I am so dang proud of myself. Every day, every month and every year gets better. I’ve never been able to say that before but I can say that now because I know that regardless of my outside circumstances I have learned how to maintain my own inner peace. In only two years I have dismantled and deconstructed a lifetime (and beyond) of the trauma and abuse that shaped my core and caused me to then continue the cycle by perpetuating those things upon myself. In only two years I have awakened to the truth of who I am instead of the previous 50 in which I was a walking trauma response with one foot nailed to the ground.
