We've just bought a tent. We're the living embodiment of all the gear and no idea. This is the Facebook page for the blog about how we get on
Campers are a friendly bunch, and those in caravans and motor homes aren’t bad either Take your empties to the recycling, preferably when you go for your last wee of the day before bedtime. Especially not at midnight When playing cricket with the kids at the campsite, don’t allocate extra points for hitting nearby caravans Don’t encourage the kids to make a fuss when someone breaks wind, especially if it’s the person in the tent next door. Beer + BBQ + holiday can equal over-enthusiastic socialising, but as campsites tend to be located in quiet rural areas noise travels very easily, so keep it down as the evening gets later. Check with your campsite about their rule on noise, most draw the line at 10pm What would you advice a novice camper that they need to know?
It’s a long story that I won’t bore you with the details of, but she’s had an on-going issue about which we’d seen the GP on the Thursday Mimi said she wasn’t happy going camping as the doctor had said she wanted her back if it happened again for more than 20 minutes – and given the weather forecast was shocking I think Husband thought this was the perfect get out of jail free card. OK, so I didn’t really take any clothes off to sleep on the camp bed, rather I fell into it at 1.15am in what I was wearing and didn’t really care. When you’ve spent too many hours to count at the bedside of a sick child, whether you’re still wearing last night’s mascara (even if it’s on your cheeks) really isn’t a factor Time will fly – but only if you’re prepared.
She’d passed on the link to my blog (thanks sis) but wanted to know what I’d recommend. * Take shoes that are easy to get on & off (Crocs are good) & keep a box by the tent door to avoid shoe carnage * Take the kids enough clothes for a new outfit every day – stuff gets damp & doesn’t dry plus they somehow get loads dirtier when camping It’s just occurred to me that I didn’t pass on my ultimate top tip – eye masks. It gets light VERY early at the moment, so if the dawn chorus doesn’t wake them, the light may.
We’d hoped to reach the M5 by 9.30am and had a quick comfort stop before getting on to the motorway not long after 10am. The view was beautiful, but I wished we weren’t going slowly enough for me to watch the red kites leisurely circling the field next to the motorway. so we came off and chanced crossing Bristol city centre in the middle of Saturday afternoon with the aid of Google and a road map – and not one with a detailed city centre map. We emptied bladders, filled tummies and set off again on an A road heading in the right direction that would eventually run parallel to the motorway.
