These are the chronicles of my first-hand experiences from all the places I have gone to and will go to in the future.
While my number one agenda is to go on a photowalk, I cannot deny the fact that this day will not be complete without digging deep into Marikina’s rich, but underrated food scene. The unique way of having the menu spell out Forget Me Not, to me, is beyond intelligent. There’s also this tug o’ war between the white sauce’s sweetness and the brackish taste of meat. One must try to explore the rich food culture in this laidback city and Lilac Street is honestly a good place to start.
I alight at Katipunan station, and from here I will take a jeepney ride to Marikina’s city proper. The air’s breeze starts to feel cooler as we get closer to Marikina. It’s still hot, but there is an evident shift, or maybe that’s just my imagination. It’s already 3pm and we need to reach Marikina Riverbank before sundown.
One perfect example is that Mr. Miyazaki drew the inspiration for the movie’s location at Jiufen (the place I will be visiting today.) I guess they are focusing too on the food stalls, that somehow, they overlook other places that makes Jiufen even more magical. It’s almost 8 o’clock when we decided to leave Jiufen. As our car drives away, I look back a few times, watching Jiufen disappear in thin air.
So one afternoon, we purchased a two-hour tour of The Dessert Museum. The first room is filled with hanging pink sprinkled donuts against a yellowish wall. It’s vividly reminiscent of Katy Perry’s California Girls music video. The Dessert Museum, while it is a museum with a specific niche, can be a great activity for everyone who loves sweets, or those who just want to have some fun activities within Metro Manila.
