I just wanted to share our experience at Prestige Dance Academy thus far because I’m so thankful for the care and direction they have given Scarlet. – I have been so heavily involved in the dance world that I seconded guessed having my own daughter enrolled out of fear that I would turn into one of those overbearing parents who ‘live their lives through’ their kids. However, after seeing Scarlet’s passion emerge at home – literally getting up from dinner every night and dancing around the house until bedtime – I figured I needed to give it a go and enrolled her in some professional lessons (even with all of my knowledge I absolutely refuse to teach her myself unless she asks for help). So although all of her classes teach the proper technique there is also an emphasis on free movement and playing around with levels, ideas, shapes, lines etc.
Whenever our young family of five is travelling to a new place, I always wonder, ‘will the kids be getting the most out of the whole experience or am I just forking over a ton of money only to have them misbehave? Having recently travelled and spent every day out and about experiencing all the city had to offer (with all three kids in tow), I’ve made a quick and easy reference list – with tons of pictures – of the top five places to visit while you are there with your family. I also want to note that as much as I love all of the Disney theme parks, I didn’t think it was necessary to include them on this list as I’m sure so many people will go and visit at least one of them while travelling to Orlando. There are multiple restaurants, arcades, water fountains in front of a huge green space that your kids can run around on, it even features a little train that the kids can hop on and ride around.
It stems waayyyyy back from childhood when one of my grade school science project’s was destroyed overnight by what my teacher called, ‘A jealous classmate’. No matter how confusing it was at the time, as an adult looking back on the situation it still makes my blood boil but also paralyzes me to the point of pure frustration because I still can’t do a thing about it except bitch. Don’t original ideas take a long time to come up with and don’t those ideas DEFINE who and what we are and our artistic integrity? So I can sort of half accept that my ideas are either totally or subconsciously influenced by external environmental factors, movies, books, porno, (I don’t watch that), etc etc etc, but taking an idea and pawning it off as your own – just wrong, and they actually talk about good stealing and bad stealing in the book.
I really do wish that I had some form of contact with my grade 7 english teacher Mrs. Anderson and my grade 12 English teacher Mr. Haynes. Two outstanding leaders (and humans) who I know would be thrilled in the most subdued and classy way to learn that I now have a second magazine article published for the world to see. The fruits of their labour – apologies for the cliche Mrs. A – were not lost on this little blondie. My second magazine article, published in the month of Feb in Glow Mag!
