And then there’s the amount of amazing products we get to try out; from innovative new techy devices to luxe moisturisers and lipstick ranges with 50 new shades, there’s always something new and exciting to test. When you’re continuously switching up your routine to incorporate that amazing new cleanser/serum/moisturiser/eye cream, your skin can feel like it never really has time to catch up – and sometimes suffers because of it. Dr Barbara Sturm of Dr. Barbara Sturm skincare is a huge advocate of keeping a simple skincare routine and not overloading your face with products. Getting into an on-going routine with minimal products and less switching up (try to stick to a product for at least a month to see if it works and to give your skin a minute) means skin has time to acclimatise, making it feel – and look – healthier.
Here’s the thing: there’s a shit ton out there, and it’s hard to know which claims to trust and where to spend your money. Don’t think I’ve ever tried a product from DDG that’s not totally amazing – one of my all-time fave skincare brands. It’s particularly effective when you use the amazing new CC cream afterwards (the pink illuminating one). But there’s nothing better than a refreshing, simple moisturiser and this works like a dream on my skin (which is dehydrated but combination with oily t-zone, FYI).
When I would listen, I felt like I was a friend who was in the room, just being quiet for the duration of that conversation. A third surprise is the #podfam or #podsquad of all the beauty podcasters: I love the fact that I’m now friends with Carlene and Jill from Breaking Beauty Podcast in Canada, speak regularly with Lindsey Kelk from Full Coverage and chat to Jess from Fat Mascara. I’m a huge fan of all the other beauty podcasts out there and I’ve already ‘cross-poddinated’ with Full Coverage and Breaking Beauty Podcast and look forward to more of the same… My show started out very much as a beauty podcast, in fact it was called ‘The Beauty Podcast with Emma G’ when it launched in Spring 2016, but because of listener feedback and the topics I want to address and people I’d like to have on the show it has changed to ‘The Emma Guns Show’.
I think it’s important to point out that I’ve been lucky enough to try out some of these devices in the past few years without having to pay out big bucks for them (the most expensive tool I own is the Philips Lumea Prestige Hair Removal device which has an RRP of £575 – ouch). I haven’t been using it religiously, so again, can’t promise you this will take 5 years off your face or something, but I just like using it, and find my skin feels healthy and glowy post-use. I think I got on with this far better because it suits my skin more; it’s a targeted treatment rather than an all-over acne fighting device and I tend to suffer with random – but individual – breakouts. but I think it’s normal as skin isn’t used to such an abrasive clean when you’ve always been using your hands.
