Mama, this season is the hardest When they’re little babies and you’re constantly checking their breathing, or you’re bemoaning their off-kilter sleep cycle. Their poop looks unusual
The answer, of course, was “Fine. But the days went fine. The evenings went fine. At the end of the day, whether I come home late or miss an activity or two… the kids are fine.
In truth, I don’t even like writing this because I feel like I’m giving these demons power in these words. It doesn’t matter if you’re one day sober or 486 days sober like I am. And today — right now in fact — I still need to loudly choose my sobriety. Whether you’re choosing to quit something, or start something… leave someone or find someone, you must make that choice today, no matter what your yesterday looked like.
A few were Ivy League (my first choice was Georgetown), a few were not Ivy League but had amazing reputations. And I’m not telling you this to rat out a person I haven’t had contact with in 20 years. I’m telling you this story because those eight college rejections? I’m grateful for those college rejections, because they taught me so much that spring.
