Rangana refers to the Lord Ranganathaswamy temple that is an important pilgrimage site for both Hindus from all over India and the local Soliga population. When Biligiri rangana Betta became a wildlife sanctuary the Soliga were to be evicted and relocated. The Dodde Sampiga Mara is another sacred place for the Soliga that is even more important to them than the Biligiri rangana betta temple. The Belur and Halebid temples are the most beautiful temples left of the Hoysala temple art. In my opinion, the Belur and Halebid temples belong to some of the most beautiful temples in Karnataka. Belur temple is the easiest to get to with direct KSRTC buses to and from Mysore, Bangalore or Chikmagalur.
The most important monastery in Bylakuppe Karnataka is the Namdroling monastery. Sakya monastery is 5 kilometers from the Namdroling monastery. Kagyu monastery is 6 kilometers from the Namdroling monastery. From the Namdroling monastery it is about 4 kilometer to the Sera monastery and 3 kilometer to Tashilhunpo monastery.
The British killed Tipu Sultan and destroyed Tipu’s main palace that was within the fort. These dungeons were used for foreign prisoners, mostly British prisoners of war from the time that Tipu Sultan was fighting the Angly Mysore wars.
