Poland sits proud and strong as the European Union country in which people ordinarily get married younger than the rest, for better or worse. The arranging could have started in many ways – you might have been set up by friends, perhaps you clicked ‘right’ on Tinder, or maybe just simply liked a post on Instagram and it turned into a new friendship and a dating experience. The ONS (One Night Stand) culture DOES exist in Poland and although I have met many people who indulged in such an activity, it is simply not for me. Some people want long term commitment, others want regular dating, others want sex.

I first visited Poland in March 2005 as a shy and daunted 24 year old watching my country, Northern Ireland play against Poland in a World Cup qualifier. The official colour of Saint Patrick is blue and it’s also the reason that the original Ireland (Northern Ireland) football team first played in blue. On Saint Patrick’s Day you will see lots of green flags, Guinness flags (black and white), county flags, Republic of Ireland flags, Northern Ireland flags, football flags and a whole plethora of unrelated flags. I personally believe that everyone in Ireland including Buddhists and Muslims should be celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day as he was a man of peace and honour who brought people together. While companies like Guinness, Bushmills and Jameson’s all promote St. Patrick’s Day with their mega marketing, believe it or not but the lad himself was teetotal.
