Adventure athlete, speaker, guide, & author of The Ultimate Hiker's Gear Guide
Starting this year I am charging a $25 application fee for my guided trips. This fee will be applied to the cost of your trip, which after accounting for this fee is unchanged from 2018
The Guide includes a complete and excellent Mapset, with separate print-ready PDF’s for the Primary Route and its Alternates, and each of the Section Hikes. Part 1, 2, and 3 are provided as a separate PDF file, designed for printing on Letter 8.5 x 11 inch paper. You’ll find waypoints for trailheads and for select high points, and a track that will help you identify the topographic map tiles you need to download onto your handheld GPS or smartphone. In addition to the detailed set of topographic maps included with the Guide, I would also recommend: * National Geographic Trails Illustrated #206, a large-scale map of the entire park; and, * Digital maps of your route, stored on a handheld GPS or your smartphone.
Renowned hiker Andrew Skurka shares his hard-earned knowledge in this completely updated guide to backpacking gear, supplies, and skills. A show-and-tell of clothing, footwear, backpacks, sleeping bags, shelters, and cooking systems, plus recipes, sample gear lists, trip planning checklists, expert tips, and much more, The Ultimate Hiker’s To read The Ultimate Hiker’s That might sound like a subtle distinction, but I think Andrew’s emphasis on skills and not the latest gear fad is a breath of fresh air in an industry that has become a bit too focused on gear and less on the self sufficiency and ingenuity that define an “Ultimate Hiker.
As You Go (for about two-thirds of the Primary Route, plus a few Alternates) * Topographic maps for the Primary Route and its Alternate Routes * Datasheets for the Primary Route, nine Section Hikes, and all Alternate Routes The Guide includes a complete and excellent Mapset, with separate print-ready PDF’s for the Primary Route and its Alternates, and each of the Section Hikes. The Primary Route (thru-hike) and its Alternate Routes are described in Part 2, and the Section Hikes and their Alternate Routes are described in Part 3. In addition to the detailed set of topographic maps included with the Guide, I would also recommend obtaining NG Trails Illustrated maps #200, #102, and #103, as well as digital maps of the area stored on a GPS or smartphone.
