PDX Parent is Excited to be Giving Away a Free Week-long Half-day Camp at Pedalheads Enter for a chance to win a free week at Pedalheads! Get your kids off training wheels through our learn-to-ride bike program, which helps kids develop life skills, confidence, and independence. Pedalheads camps take place June 10-August 19 in the Eastmoreland, Hillsdale, Laurelhurst, and Reed neighborhoods.

Kid-friendly Weekend Picks

Every year, participating comic books stores throughout North America give away free comic books and host signings, sales and in-store events. The Oregon Zoo is teaming up with the agencies comprising the local Portland area Safe Kids coalitions to host the 21st annual Safe Kids Day at the zoo. With a range of activities like origami helmet-making, a haiku scavenger hunt, Taiko drum performances, height measuring, a kid-friendly tea ceremony, and our famous Koi Parade, this event has something for children of all ages. The May Revels in North PDX.Featuring Robi Arce storyteller/clown/ puppeteer and Nelda Reyes physical theater/folk dance and music performer and the Portland Revels Community Chorusin a tale of rebirth, of transformation, and of awakening, featuring stories of South America.

Kids Bowl Free All Summer Long

As part of the Kids Bowl Free program, your kids can bowl 2 games a day at participating bowling alleys for free! For example Mt. Hood Lanes in Gresham opens May 1, KingPins in Portland starts May 1, Grand Central Bowl starts June 1 — plus, there are more sites in Beaverton, Milwaukie and throughout the metro area. Each week, you receive coupons via email to use for the week at that center, during specific hours (daytime and off-hours, which are actually perfect for many families). Kids Bowl Free does offer a Family Pass for adults; it is $30 for 2 games/day for up to four adult family members for the entire summer.

We are putting together a great slate of entertainment, featuring local faves Red Yarn, Micah & Me, The Alphabeticians, Olive & Dingo, Tallulah’s Daddy, Rock N’ Roll Fairy, plus a demonstration from The Circus Project, storytimes from the stage with Green Bean Books and Maggie Mae’s Kids Bookshop and a kid-parent yoga class with Imagination Yoga. There will be plenty of kids’ activities from Trackers Earth, OMSI, Thinker Toys, Smartypants, Fit4Mom, Pietro’s Pizza, Oaks Park, Groundplay Therapy Works, Pacific Crest Children’s Urgent Care, Hopworks, The Circuit Gym, Metropolitan Pediatrics, Acting for Kids and Teens, and more. Don’t miss great giveaways from local businesses including Portland Children’s Museum, Fit4Mom, Hopworks, Tiny Talkers Baby Sign Language, and the Portland Pickles!
