Advance with Assist: Tableau Server Migrations

To ensure it hasn’t been cloned onto new hardware, Tableau’s licensing service looks at several identifiers, such as the network adaptor MAC address and the VM (or instance) unique identifier. In most cases, the best course of action is to build a new Tableau Server environment up in parallel (taking advantage of one of the two non-production environments the Tableau licenses allow) and restore in a backup. Install Tableau Server on the new environment, matching the process topology between old and new. When it’s time to switch over: Restore in a fresh backup if the new environment needs to catch up with changes made to the old one during testing.

Celebrating One Year of Virtual Water Cooler Chats

I think that WCC has allowed people who usually are on the road to have a little bit of time to chat with each other even when we aren’t able to see one another. I really hope to see WCC continue even after the pandemic is over, so we can all still hang out for 30 minutes, hear about what new instrument Danny is playing, what the latest cat hairstyle is from Kevin [Kendra’s cat] or what new thing Rachel has baked! Water Cooler Chat has been a great way to unplug in a year that has redefined normal. It’s hard to believe the remote version of Water Cooler Chat has been going for a year.

Exploring the New Map Layers Feature in Tableau 2020.4

Let’s say we have three map layers in our view and use this function; we get three new sheets, each with a crosstab that includes all the data that’s in the respecting map layer. All the map layers in your view use the same geographic coordinates, coming from a longitude field and latitude field. So, you only get the new bar (or right-click option on the field) to add a field to a new map layer when the elements of that field can be found on a map generated by the coordinates on rows and columns. Yes, but the options are very limited as map layers don’t support other coordinate fields (like another latitude field) and no continuous fields, may they be measures, dimensions or even date fields.

Virtual Event Recap: Tableau Deep Dive: Changing Your Crosstab Culture

We set out to help our friends across Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Singapore answer this question in our latest event. The aim of the webinar was to showcase visual analytics and teach attendees how to elevate their analytics and present data in clear and effective ways. Advanced options using viz in tooltips and dashboard actions t0 hide crosstabs until they’re needed We finish the virtual event by challenging you to tell a better story, and we provide some InterWorks inspiration from our very own Keith Dykstra to help you do just that.
