He scooped up the pills, Tim’s dog, Benny, Tim, and took them home with him, to our place. It’s dangerous to go cold turkey off of clozapine, and by Wednesday morning we’d determined, from Tim’s fractured memory and some insight from his boss on his behavior, that he’d probably been off his meds closer to 10 days. He’s not quite back up to a full therapeutic dose of clozapine yet, but he will be by the end of next week. He knew Tim wasn’t feeling well, and he grounded Tim in what was real and what wasn’t.

I made some phone calls and we found a family a few hours away that was trying to find a home for their little dog because they went from zero kids to four kids in six years and the dog wasn’t handling it well. They are each other’s constant companion and I think Tim gives Benny as much emotional support as Benny gives Tim. In May, Tim’s bloodwork, required monthly for his Clozaril prescription, came back with a low white blood cell count. The following month, his white blood cell count was lower again, and the doc lowered him another 100 MG, and by July, he was getting paranoid and his speech was getting a little salad-y.

It’s taken me a few weeks to write a post about attending this year’s HealtheVoices. This is the fourth time Janssen has hosted this event and I am blessed to have been invited to attend all four times
