Keeping Safety Top of Mind

The past several months have been unlike anything we’ve ever experienced, and our team has been working hard to adjust so we can continue to provide a meaningful experience for you, our team members and our communities. Each of our team members have experienced a thorough re-train and have received official COVID-19 training certification from ServSafe, an accredited training & certification program administered by the U.S. National Restaurant Association • No guests or team members with symptoms will be allowed inside the building or on the patios • Additional sanitizing & handwashing stations have been added throughout the restaurant for guests & team members • Social distancing will be enforced at all times within, and outside of, the restaurant • From 3pm – 4pm each day, our restaurants will ONLY offer takeout & delivery, allowing our team to perform an additional midday deep clean of the restaurant, in addition to the regular cleaning & sanitization happening throughout the day •

What we’re doing to keep you safe

As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to have an increased impact on our communities, we feel it’s important to connect directly with you to share more information about the steps we’re taking in each of our restaurants to help keep you, our team members, and our communities safe and healthy. Over the past few weeks, we’ve increased the frequency and extent of those heavy cleanings, in addition to adding resources like CDC-approved hand sanitizer throughout the restaurant for both guests and team members. Based on the guidance we have received from all trusted health agencies, our own preparedness and the current state of operations, we are confident our restaurants continue to be safe, and we remain open for business. We will continue to monitor each new piece of information regarding the situation, and we plan to remain open if and only if we can guarantee the utmost safety of our guests and our team members alike.

HAWKERS ASIAN STREET FARE

It’s time to bring the streets of Asia to Tarheel country! Hawkers Chapel Hill is our second location in North Carolina, and we are excited to be heading into one of the most iconic college towns in the United States. Located within University Place on South Estes Drive, we chose Chapel Hill because of its bustling collegiate culture and its diverse energy. See you soon!

Things Got Broken

What resonates today, a year later, is Anthony’s connection to a string of tragic memories that span every lifetime – memories that we all unfortunately share and connect to – with a common thread of depression, addiction, and suicide. It was dubbed the “dark side of the industry” by the Wall Street Journal in an article last year highlighting the addiction, depression and other mental illnesses that are so prevalent in the restaurant world. Amidst the celebration of Bourdain Day today, I want to not forget what I felt a year ago – a small taste of what so many feel every day as they mourn their loved ones who were lost in tragedy. I want to remember Anthony’s amazing life, but I also want to remember his tragic death, and continue the hope that we can move towards a world less broken.
