We weren’t home from the hospital with Ada an hour when Jack started projectile vomiting. The vomiting bug hit our house hard, with an A&E visit for Jack, and both myself and Colm coming down with the bug too. Despite all of this, it’s been such a special time with our little ones getting to know one another, and having so much family and friends around. Our new normal will take a little while to get used to, but I’m so looking forward to seeing Jack and Ada become pals.
Last Monday, February 18th, 2019, our little girl made her grand entrance into this world. Ada Katherine Tully was born at 12:05pm weighing 8lbs on the button. She is perfection, and she has made our little family complete. The care we received was exceptional, from our lovely doctor, to the anesthesiologist who tried to calm my nerves, and mostly from the fantastic team of nurses that took care of us throughout our stay.
It’s the 2nd anniversary of the best day of our lives, and marks 2 years of surviving and smashing it at parenthood! It’s a day with a difference though as I’m writing this from my hospital bed in the Rotunda Hospital – Ada Katherine Tully eeked us into the “2 under 2” gang by 3 days, but her arrival means I won’t be spending Jack’s birthday with him. Getting a lifelong bestie and sister seems like a fair trade-off, but to distract myself, I’m penning this note to my boy on his big day.
And I wonder: How could I ever love another child as I love you? I watch the pain you feel at having to share me as you’ve never shared me before. Yes, I can love another child as much as I love you — only differently. And although I realize that you may have to share my time, I now know you’ll never share my love.
