Entryway Antique Church Bench

G wanted seating in our entryway for getting shoes off and on, and I wanted more antique items in our home, so I asked him to keep an eye on Craigslist for an antique church pew or theater seats. This gorgeous old piece is a connected row of four seats rescued from an old church in Wisconsin before it was bulldozed. They’re 100 years old and in incredible condition! They match our entryway space beautifully, and I love the natural signs of wear they have on them from over the years.

Christmas in Cambridge

, I was using a wine glass as a toothbrush holder, and the last thing I wanted to do was unpack ten totes of Christmas decorations when our house was covered in liquor boxes and I couldn’t even find the damn iron! Last year I had a much better excuse to be all Scrooge-y with the Christmas decorations – we spent Christmas in Mexico! After a few years of some fun and colorful Christmas decorations, I decided to take it back to something a little more traditional and classic this year. Quick Link to previous Christmas decorations in our old home: Colorful Holiday Home Tour.

Barn Quilt Hunting

A few days later, I was driving Kate to her swimming lessons (20 minutes of backroads away) and she said, “Mom, let’s see if we can find more of those barn quilts. Let’s take all new roads we’ve never driven before to get there, and let’s go barn quilt hunting! Here are a few of our finds to date: Kate and I love our barn quilting hunting so much that we’ve decided to take a little road trip to Shawano County, Wisconsin this week – Monday through Wednesday – to drive their barn quilt tour. And then I had the pleasure of telling her that in Shawano County there are at least 326 documented barn quilts, and we’ll be seeing them all – not to mention the barn quilts we’ll discover as we make our way there and back on our beloved backroads.

Where's the "Publish" Button?

Like an old friend you haven’t seen in awhile and you’re not sure how it’s going to go. I started this blog a decade ago to document mine and my family’s lives. It’s taken some twists and turns since then, and now I’m taking it back to why I started this in the first place – to look back and remember who we were, what we did, and how we lived. I’m no longer interested in page views, SEO, social media algorithms, and how many followers I have or the number of pins I rack up.
