While there is a place for bold transitions in paint and trim, with white walls, there is beauty in monochromatic backgrounds that lay a clean foundation for the patterns, layers, and textures that are happening in the surrounding space. Subconsciously, your eye will dissect the whites in a given space and you can begin to notice a pale yellow, a hint of pink or maybe a soft gray. Any paint color unless in its purest form will carry an undertone, but it is selecting the perfect undertone for a given space that creates harmony. Using different sheens of white on your walls, trim, and ceiling, but keeping your white consistent will create a beautiful backdrop for your home’s decor.
Kendra Scott—we’re obsessed with their home line, we wear their jewelry daily, and we love their generosity in giving back. At City Hill Design, we love metal mixing + material mixing—don’t stick to all metal lighting. If your vibe has hints of warm, casual, or an earthy feel, woven wood lighting is a great way add beautiful texture and warmth. Add them above your kitchen island, bathtub, breakfast table, or even in a nursery. Take a look at some of our fave way to incorporate woven wood pendants.
After speaking with Amy Mobley, designer + co-owner of City Hill Design, about her own home, we put together a list of our favorite paint colors with the hope that it might help you achieve the perfect paint scheme for your home! With Sherwin Williams’ Alabaster for trim, Amy opted for a tonal look, choosing Shoji White (Sherwin Williams) for the walls. ProTip: If Amy could choose her paint all over again, she would paint the walls + the trim the same color. For the dining room, Amy relates that choosing a color that is in the same neutral color family + not starkly different from the main spaces keeps a flow from room to room.
