After months and months of hard work, I am proud to announce the drone book I authored and curated, Eyes over the World: The Most Spectacular Drone Photography, is finally launching on Tuesday, May 26, 2020! It’s a 208-page hardcover book that features a collection of 20 of my own drone photos and over 170 absolutely stunning #fromwhereidrone images from 125+ friends/photographers that were taken on all 7 continents! This inspiring book will be the perfect addition to add to your photography book collection, keep on your coffee table or to use as a bucket list of places to explore…hopefully in the near future ;) ’s fastest-growing technologies, drones have transformed the world of photography, allowing a new class of creatives to capture images that shift our point of view and redefine how we see the world.
But if you want to your aerial photography and videography skills up by a notch, you’ll need to acknowledge that pressing the shutter is only half of what makes a great photo. You’ll have to be well-versed in the fundamentals of photography, like composition, exposure, story, colors, and the like to create impressive shots. If you think the drone photos you take already look impressive, powerful image editing tools such as Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, Corel PaintShop Pro, Corel AfterShoot Pro, RawTherapee, and the like can enhance their beauty further. Regular cameras can take great photos, but drones allow people to capture the world from perspectives and injecting your photos with a sense of wonder.
Recreational drone pilots (those who are flying their drones for fun) can now access the FAA’s LAANC (Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability) system. Now, recreational users can use the free app I use, ‘AirMap for Drones’ to request and receive near-instant approval to fly in U.S. controlled airspace at many of the airports across the United States (over 591 airports as of right now). Here is a quick step-by-step guide showing you how to request permission to fly in controlled airspace using the free ‘AirMap for Drones’: Log in to the AirMap app on Web, iOS, or Android. To learn more about what the FAA has to say about recreational flying you can visit the FAA’s official page here and to access the free AirMap for Drones app click here.
Here is a video that we made for the launch of the new anamorphic lens and the other products they announced which are ND filters, a foldup landing pad and an iPhone case that actually fits inside the Mavic Pro controller. In other words, it’s like shooting a wider focal length in the horizontal direction and a longer focal length in the vertical. Now, with anamorphic lenses for the DJI Mavic Pro and Zoom, you can bring premium glass, cinematic aspect ratios, and juicy lens flares to your drone footage. Here is a before and after video comparing drone footage with and without the footage:
