How (and Why) I Redesigned Indie Traveller • Indie Traveller

If you’re a regular visitor to my blog, then you might have just noticed something different: I have a brand new site design! It’s been in development for many months now, so I’m stoked to finally have it live. After more than 5 years of blogging, it felt time to ditch the standard template I was using and finally move to a completely custom design

Review: Boundary Supply's Clever Modular Travel Backpack • Indie Traveller

But then I received the Prima System Modular Travel Backpack from Boundary Supply, and I was delighted by the unique features and approach of this product. The Prima System reminds me a little of the backpacks by Peak Design, though it has a more sturdy and outdoorsy design, and it manages a have a bit more restraint when it comes to the access points for the main compartment (which I think can be a real plus). Inside the main compartment is something that looks a bit like a big packing cube, which attaches to the inside of the bag with two buttons. Of course, this bag has a padded laptop compartment (what bag doesn’t, these days? ) and a place to store documents.

Travel is Unsustainable — and I'm Part of the Problem • Indie Traveller

But here’s my estimate for the past year, according to a UN carbon footprint calculator, which also shows how much of my carbon footprint is due to flying: Clearly, my personal carbon footprint is out of control, and it’s mostly due to travelling. But it’s an important issue, especially given that the reports about climate change are getting increasingly dire. Probably in part because, realistically, it’s impossible to travel in a way that’s truly environmentally friendly. It doesn’t always make sense to travel overland, but cutting unnecessary flights is definitely a way to lower your carbon footprint.

My ULTIMATE Guide for Finding Amazingly Cheap Flights • Indie Traveller

Click on a destination you’ve already set Right-click and select Expand to Radius Right-click anywhere and select ‘Flight to here’. With Nomad search simply enter the places you want to go, select roughly how long you want to stay there, and Kiwi will take care of the rest. Normally this would mean that if Flight A gets cancelled or delayed, you’re not entitled to a refund or rescheduling for unrelated Flight B. For these situations, Kiwi offers its own guarantee. For instance, I found flights this way to some obscure islands in the Philippines, with some small domestic carriers that search engines haven’t yet included.
