Call to Action to Oppose Reclassification of Independent Contractors as Employees

NCRA Government Relations is issuing this call to action to urge NCRA members to contact their elected representatives to note their opposition of H. R. 842, Protecting the Right to Organize Act of 2021 (PRO Act). If the PRO Act is enacted, our freelance court reporters’ independent contractor status may be at risk and our freelance reporters’ ability to provide essential services, such as federally mandated captioning access to the deaf and hard-of-hearing communities, may be inhibited. Please review our Government Relations’ update to learn more about the PRO Act and please sign and email this letter directly to your representative within the House. To answer our call to action, download the letter, include your representative’s name and contact information, date and sign your name in the relevant areas, and email the letter to your elected representative.

Phipps Court Reporting

As a freelance court reporter turned owner of her own court reporting firm, Christine has spent years working in the physically and mentally demanding environment of court reporting. Over the years, Christine’s long hours in the court reporter’s chair, hauling her gear in and out the courthouse, and unhealthy eating habits while on the job began to take a toll on her body. Just like her success as a court reporter, competing at this level required years of training and dedication. Having seen many of the finest court reporters in the country, I do not hesitate to say that Christine Phipps is the best of them all.
