Inclusive family travel and adventures with 3 young kids one of whom uses a wheelchair. Travel advice and tips inspiring YOUR family to discover the world
Since we will be spending a lot more time exploring our hometown of Melbourne we’ve found the perfect tour to explore a few of Melbournes’ hot spots plus have memories that we can take home. Viator have tours to suit everyone with experiences at Queen Vic Market, exploring St Kilda and even going further afield within Victoria to destinations like Phillip Island or Sovereign Hill. Looking through Viators many tours we chose the ” Melbourne with a photographer” session which took us for two hours through Melbournes famous street art laneways, churches and gardens. Currently due to the Covid 19 Pandemic some tours may be affected so check the information on the Viator website for the most up to date information.
iFly Melbourne opened its doors and its giant wind tunnel in November 2019 and it’s the perfect place for all ages and abilities to get an adrenaline rush! Indoor skydiving at iFly Melbourne offers inclusive adventures with dedicated all abilities nights along with all day everyday sessions. You will meet your instructor, head down-stairs for training then get changed upstairs into the special iFLY jumpsuit ( it goes over your clothes ) fitted for a helmet and goggles and ear plugs In your small group of flyers ( we had eight people) you will enter the tunnel area and sit on the bench or in your wheelchair depending on what supports you need.
The Arthurs Seat Eagle is an experience our whole family can enjoy thanks to their inclusive practises making the ride for wheelchair users smooth and enjoyable. The Arthurs Seat Eagle is a scenic Gondola ride which takes 15 minutes to reach the summit of 315m allowing for amazing views across Port Phillip Bay. The Arthurs Seat Eagle accepts the carer and companion cards so that the person with a disability can travel with an extra person free of charge. Once you have experienced the Arthurs Seat Eagle why not try out some surfing lessons or explore one of the many wheelchair accessible bush walking tracks.
The kids had to come in their bathers ( both kids wore a rashvest under their wetsuit ) and were fitted for a long leg and arm wetsuit,( steamer) booties, rash-vest ( blue to wear over the top to be clearly visible) and a helmet. The instructors knew all the kids names within a few moments and connected well with all the kids. kids were able to set their own goals after day 2 with wanting to stand more fluidly, to standing for longer to catching the wave without help. The Surf Groms program is sponsored by Nudie and Rip Curl and the kids get a surf backpack, rash vest, cap and a nudie juice to start the course.
