TESOL courses draw on broader elements of the latter teaching certifications to provide the base for teachers to teach in both non-native English countries and within English-speaking countries. For those open to teaching abroad as well as teaching English at home, TESOL could be a good start. I had no teaching experience and no travel experience in South East Asia where I chose to do my teach abroad experience. The programs are designed for those that have no teaching experience and no travel experience and they support you not just the teaching side of things but also settling down into your country, cultures, and traditions.

Rincon has quickly become one of my absolute favorite towns in Puerto Rico for so many reasons – amazing beaches, laid-back surfer style, and a multitude of things to do. Rincon is located on the West side of Puerto Rico where the Atlantic meets the Caribbean Sea about 2 1/2 hours from San Juan and is a beautiful little beach town. There’s a really amazing space above the beach too perfect for watching the surfers at the lighthouse listed below. They can be found daily right near Hotel Villa Cofresi and it’s an easy stop in the morning before the beach.

We are often our harshest critic and our biggest blocker from going for what we want is ourselves. . When I was first teaching and dreaming of traveling the world, I didn’t know anyone who wanted to do the same. I thought it’d be irresponsible and that it was just “not what people do.” I decided there was nothing stopping me and to just go. Turns out my best friend had actually been feeling the same and we traveled on 4 different continents together in 2 years. Over the years I’ve been brought more friends with the same mindset. . I never thought I’d be able to afford a home in DC as a teacher until one day an ad popped up from a real estate agent sharing programs for teachers in DC. Turns out I could buy something, I shifted my mindset and grabbed the opportunity. . Why didn’t I just research and find the program myself? Why didn’t I just ask my friends to go on a trip? Because I was blocking myself without even thinking about it. . One thing 2020 has given me is the chance to really *lean* (hehe puns) into my true self. . For a long time I was scared to talk about leaving the classroom. TIS the season in DC again! It’s always magical here this time of year. My friends and I are planning on checking out a cool spot with definitely holiday/vintage vibes this weekend and walking the city next week to some of our favorite holiday spots. This is a long read, but stick with me here - A year ago I was contemplating all of my decisions. I had decided to leave the classroom at the end of the school year because I just couldn’t take it anymore. I was confused and worried about it because I really didn’t know how to not be a teacher. . It’s the kind of career I always imagined myself staying in forever and it just kept fading further and further from my reality. I felt bad for a few months watching all of my friends teaching in the classroom. . I was consulting and it wasn’t enough. I decided to start looking at companies I knew well in education for jobs and found the perfect one for me - the place I was consulting! I was so worried I’d hate it long term and miss the daily interaction with kids. . I ended up finding out it wasn’t necessarily the in person with kids part that I loved, it was the HELPING kids part. I still do that every single day. . Teachers, just know that even if you do want to switch careers it doesn’t mean you can’t keep helping kids in a new way. AND sometimes what is best for you is best for the kids too. It can be a tough decision but doing what’s right for you is ultimately what is right for everyone at some point. . I went viral this week on TikTok 3x for talking about this and how much I make. Money aside, I’m fulfilled and excited to go to work everyday. Hang in there teachers ❤️ this is a tough year.
