I write White Silk, Black Leather, a fashion and lifestyle blog.
Jeffrey Campbell, belt- from another Banana Republic dress, necklace- was a gift This black dress makes me feel so sophisticated and elegant. It’s a light knit material, with a turtleneck collar, ribbed, but not tight fit, mid-calf length, and a slit at either side of the hem. I paired it with my new favorite rain boots; these Jeffrey Campbells that I literally haven’t taken off since I bought them (partly because it actually won’t stop raining). Rain boots that don’t look like rain boots kind of have my heart right now.
My exact one is available at H&M (I’ll also be doing a post about versatile ways to style a dress like this; stay tuned), and is only $49.99! They also have two other color options if white isn’t your thing, but I would definitely recommend picking up a white dress for spring/summer. I’m really not a girly dresser, so that’s about as soft as I would make this outfit, and you really don’t want to go too much one way or the other. I wouldn’t necessarily re-wear this outfit there again, because it wasn’t downtown enough for me, but I would certainty wear this to brunch or out to dinner in DC.
I wore this dress to a wedding I went to last weekend, and it was the perfect choice for the more casual atmosphere. I played up the dress with accessories, which created this sort of bohemian, yet party ready look. For the wedding (in Minneapolis, so it was very cold), I wore my Stuart Weitzman OTK boots in black velvet (velvet is a favorite of mine). I don’t think that I would wear this dress for another formal occasion, since this wedding was sort of the exception in terms of dress code.
I had so much fun taking these photos in the skyways of downtown Minneapolis (because it’s so cold and snowy so often here, the city built these bridges between buildings, so you never have to actually go outside when you’re downtown) with my parents. It’s a great casual outfit that’s just as easy to put together as a truly casual outfit, but because of the pieces, it doesn’t feel casual in the bad kind of casual at all. I will admit they’re not for everything, but if you’re looking to spice up your jean rotation, they’re wonderful choice. I’m wearing 7 For All Mankind, and also love these from Urban Outfitters and these super grungy ones from Agolde.
