Film Review: All About Nina by Diana Matthews

Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays Nina Geld, a razor-sharp stand-up comedian who moves from New York to LA to escape her abusive boyfriend and realize her dream of having her own comedy show. As Nina pursues her big break, the trauma of her past comes to a head in a particularly powerful scene when she goes onstage and shares the detail of her abuse. With the country just having witnessed Dr. Ford’s testimony, it felt full circle to now see Nina owning her story in a similar way. All About Nina is a triumphant and raw portrait of a woman struggling to reconcile her big dreams for the future with the profound injury of her past.

Meet Ieva Urbaite from Twenty Hive

My name is Ieva Urbaite and I’m the founder of Twenty Hive, a contemplative self-care newsletter. Twenty Hive is the newsletter I wish I had at the start of my twenties. Twenty Hive is also a good option for self-care 😉 There is totally room for other people’s advice, but it feels so good to give yourself the final say.

Meet Author Sarah Cannon

I began writing with seriousness when I enrolled in an MFA Creative Writing program in 2012. I wanted to be free, just like a boy, but I also didn’t want to be a boy. Feminism informs my work because my work has everything to do with family and care giving. My debut book, a memoir called The Shame of Losing, is available anywhere you like to buy books.

The Unexpected Sisterhood of Pregnancy

Every woman in our family who we told immediately asked about my symptoms (of which there are plenty) and then recounted her own. I had any symptoms, let alone knew what they meant (excluding, of course, my best friend John who predicted my morning sickness would give us a big healthy baby). I knew I would feel joy and excitement in sharing the news, but I never predicted I’d feel so seen. One minute you are fine and the next minute you feel hungry and nauseous at the time same, all the while choking back tears because you feel like you could cry at a moment
